After signing in, look for Export near the bottom of the teacher menu. Either class grades, or the exams you've designed, can be exported. Choose specific classes or exams, or select all. Click Prepare to create a .zip file, then Download to save the file on your own computer.

• Grades are in the .csv format, easily imported into any spreadsheet program such as Excel or Google Sheets.
• Exams are in .html format. Open in a web browser to print, save as .pdf, or edit in your word processor of choice.

Share an account between teachers

 HOW CAN MULTIPLE TEACHERS SHARE A SINGLE CLASS?

A class can only belong to a single teacher, accessed through a single teacher login / email address. However that teacher can share their account with other teachers who have their own separate ThatQuiz logins.

Look for Share in the menu.

After opening the Share page, click on the "Account" button which lets you share your account with other teachers. Type an email address of an existing ThatQuiz account holder, and click "Add". Next, you can choose how much control the other teacher should have over your account.

The teacher you share with will be able to control your classes as if they were you, but is limited to the menu items you enable.

To open your account, the teacher you share with should log in normally to ThatQuiz using their own email address and password, then click "Share" and "Account" and look for the shared account under "Donors".

Observe your students while they test.

What does Observe do? The page doesn't show anything.

Observe is for observing your students while they test. It shows only students for the currently selected class. If you have "Class One" selected you won't see students from other classes. And you won't see anything unless a student is actively testing, entering answers to an assigned quiz for a grade. Students who are simply practicing won't appear.

Try clicking "Observe" while students for the selected class are actively completing an assigned test. You should all of their work in progress. Use the slider at the top of the page to zoom in or out. It looks like this:

Move a test back into the design area

After a test is assigned to a class, how can I move it back into the design area to edit it again?

ANSWER

When you assign your own designed test to a class, a copy is made. The original test can still be edited in the design area.

However, if you import a test designed by another teacher directly to your own class, you don't have a copy of that test in your design area. If you want to edit the test questions yourself that test needs to be copied into your design area. Here's how:

1. Check a single test of type "Multiple choice", "Short answer", "Matching" or "Slides".

2. Click the "Share" button.

3. Choose "*Design" as the target for sharing in the "--Make copy for--" drop down box.

4. Presto! The test is copied into your design area where you can edit it more easily.

What's the expiration date mean?

What does the expiration date mean?

ANSWER

The expiration date and time defines the moment at which students will no longer be allowed to start a test. Students who load the test before the expiration time can begin testing. Students who load the test after the expiration time are denied the opportunity to test.

Important: The expiration time only affects whether a student can begin testing or not. It does not force a student to finish testing. If the expiration time is 12:00 today, and I start testing at 11:59, I am free to continue working on the test after 12:00. There's nothing to stop me from leaving the test open and finishing it later that afternoon or even the next day, unless a time limit has been set.

Most teachers use expiration dates with time limits defined. The expiration date sets a cutoff date after which students are no longer allowed to begin testing. The time limit makes sure the student finishes the test within a given amount of time.

If you have a fifteen minute test which you need all students to complete by 12:00 try this strategy:

1. Set the expiration time for 11:45.

2. Set the time limit at 15 minutes.

3. If you have autosave on (recommended in order to save the work as students progress) also choose the option "Clock never pauses". This means that if a student leaves the test and comes back to it later, the clock continues running while the student is away. However, if the test has expired in the meantime, they won't be able to reload the abandoned test.

Time zone of an assigned quiz

What time zone is used on the website for the quizzes?

ANSWER

The time zone currently set on the teacher's computer when the teacher sets a quiz's "assigned" date/time is used to determine the exact starting time, or expiration time, of a quiz.

For example:

If a teacher is in Hawaii, and the teacher's clock is set for the Hawaiian time zone at the time the teacher defines a quiz date and time, for example 8:00 AM on November 1, then that date and time is interpreted to be 8:00 AM on November 1 in Hawaii. Thus students in other time zones, such as the US East or Europe would not be able to begin testing until it was 8:00 AM in Hawaii. A student who is in London does not have access to the quiz at 8:00 AM in London, but must wait for the time to be 8:00 AM in Hawaii.

The same is true for quiz expiration times. If a teacher's computer clock indicates the teacher's time zone to be "Los Angeles" when setting an expiration time of 23:59 on December 31, the quiz expires when the time is 23:59 on December 31 in Los Angeles. A student in London would still be able to complete the quiz on the early morning of January 1, since the time in Los Angeles is used to determine the date.

WHAT TEACHERS SEE

All users see a quiz's assignment and expiration dates according to the time zone reported by the browser wherever they are currently using their computer or phone. If a teacher working in New York defines a quiz's expiration to be 9:00 PM on January 1, but then travels to Paris, the expiration date the teacher sees will change to 3:00 AM on January 2 (provided that the teacher's device's time zone has been adjusted to Paris). Nevertheless, students in New York will continue to see an expiration date of 9:00 PM on January 1. That's because 9:00 PM in New York is the same moment in time as 3:00 AM in Paris.

WHAT IF A STUDENT COMPUTER'S CLOCK OR TIME ZONE IS WRONG?

ThatQuiz ignores student computer clocks and time zones. The only data point which affects an assignment or expiration date and time is the time zone of the teacher's computer at the moment the date is set.

WHAT IF A TEACHER'S COMPUTER CLOCK IS WRONG?

ThatQuiz generally trusts its own clock over any clock on a user device. Nevertheless it is recommended to maintain a reasonably correct time on your device. Most computers and phones do this automatically.

WHAT IF A TEACHER'S TIME ZONE IS WRONG?

ThatQuiz trusts the time zone reported by the teacher's device regardless of whether it is right or wrong. If a teacher's computer or phone has an incorrect time zone configuration, for example reporting Tokyo when in fact the teacher and the teacher's students are in San Francisco, then the assignment and expiration times of quizzes will be incorrect for San Francisco.

WHAT IF I'M STILL WORRIED ABOUT QUIZZES APPEARING AT THE CORRECT TIME?

You can always manually control a quiz's appearance. Set a quiz's assignment date to "Not yet". It will be hidden from students. Then, at whatever moment you want to begin testing, set its assignment date to "Today". This makes the test immediately available to everyone regardless of any time zone or clock inaccuracies.

WHAT IF I'M STILL WORRIED ABOUT QUIZZES EXPIRING AT THE CORRECT TIME?

You can always manually expire a quiz. When you want a quiz to expire, set its expiration date to "Yesterday". This means that no new students will be allowed to load and begin the quiz, regardless of inaccuracies with any computer's time zone or clock. Students who have already begun the quiz are allowed to continue the quiz even though it is now expired.

When you open "Grades", exams are ordered from oldest (left side) to newest (right side).

The order depends on when the last student finished an exam.

If an exam is given on Monday, but one student completes the exam later on Friday, then Friday's date is used to determine the order of the test on the grades page.

You can change the time period to only see grades recorded in a certain period.

Use the "Time period" box in the upper left hand corner of the page.

Choose "Other" for the time period and select the dates which interest you.

Step by step quiz sharing with another teacher

First:

1. Use the "Share" item under "Other tests" in your menu.

2. Enter the other teacher's login or email under "Share your tests with another teacher" and click "Add".

3. You should see her login appear under "Recipients"

- Recipients automatically see all the tests which are in your "Design" area.

- If you want to share tests from a class, on the "Share" page, click the "Classes" button in the upper right hand corner. Check the classes whose tests you want to share. Tests alone, not grades or students, are shared.

Next:

1. Have the teacher you are sharing with click "Share" in the menu.

2. Your login or email should appear under "Donors" for the teacher you've shared with.

3. The teacher who wants to copy your test should click on your login under "Donors".

4. Your Design area tests are now visible for copying.

5. If you've shared a specific class, the recipient can also select the class by name under the drop down select box containing your login or email address.

Sharing an account

I have a co-teacher this year and would like to share through my account so that we both see the data from our students.

Is this available and I am just not seeing it?

ANSWER

The "Share" item in your menu allows you to share exams with other teacher accounts, but it doesn't share anything about your students or their grades.

We would recommend changing the email address on your account to a shared email address, for example something like some-shared-account@gmail.com and sharing this account with your co-teacher. You can change the email address for your account under "Account info" in the menu.

If both you and your co-teacher know the email address and password, you'll both be able to access the account. Either one of you could later change the account email address back to a personal account if, in the future, the account no longer needed to be shared.

Another option is to add your own teacher account info to the co-teacher's mobile phone or tablet using the ThatQuiz mobile app. Once enrolled, your password is not visible to the co-teacher, but all of your ThatQuiz account info (classes, exams, students) are permanently accessible and controllable (create, delete, etc) from the co-teacher's device. Remember that once a teacher account is added to a device, however, that account remains on the device as long as the device owner wants it there. So, even if your co-teacher were no longer your co-teacher next year, he or she would still have complete access.

How can I send a quiz from the app?

If your students are using mobile phones or tablets to test, you should have the students scan their student QR code with their devices. From then on, every test you assign is automatically available on the student's device, without "sending" it.

Or, if your students are using a web browser, you could send them the URL of their class home page. Log into your account on a computer, and click "Edit class" in your menu to see the URL of the class home page. The class home page gives all students an entry point to all of their assigned tests.

Or, send an email to your students with the test code for a test you've created. The test code is composed of eight letters or digits. Something like "A9XMR1TL". It appears for each test in the list of assignments.

How to move tests to a folder

Within a class, you can create folders for filing tests.

1. First, select the tests you want to move to a folder.

2. Second, click the icon of a folder with a + on it, to the far left of all the other buttons.

3. Third, type in a name for the folder

4. Fourth, press Enter / Return or click on the new folder icon.

This creates a new folder and moves your selected tests to that folder.

Students do know some tricks. ThatQuiz saves the grade from the first time a student finishes a quiz. If a student shows you a different result on their screen than the result you have saved in your account, trust the official saved grade. Computer screens and screenshots can be manipulated in many ways. ThatQuiz records every answer your student gives every time he or she completes a problem. Those answers were the student's real answers, and our grade is the grade you can trust.

Different problems for each student

I want a single test where each student receives a different subset of problems from a larger problem bank. What do I do?

ANSWER

Create a large test with 100 questions. You can configure the test so that each student receives a different random subset of the total problem set.

Click on the test name in your list of tests. This allows you to edit many options related to the set.
If you have Random order already set, look immediately to the right of the word Random for the length of the test. When you set a length like 50 / 100 or 20 / 100 it means that each time someone takes the test they receive a random selection of 50 or 20 questions out of the full problem set.

Assign a test to some students; exempt other students

How can I assign a test to only some students in the class?

ANSWER

You can make some students exempt from taking an assigned test. Click on the test name in your list of assignments (first, click "See tests"). This opens a page for editing the options related to the assignment. Look for the "Exemptions" button. Any student who you mark and save as exempt will not see his/her name in the list of students who must test. The assignment will not appear on the class home page for that student. The student will not see the assignment on his/her mobile device in the ThatQuiz mobile app. For exemptions to work properly, students and teachers who use the mobile app should upgrade it to the latest version.

How to hide other students in a class

Would it be possible for a student to take his or her own quiz without seeing or knowing other student's names?

Yes, there are two ways to test without seeing other student names:

1. Email the student about the test. Check a test in your test list, and click the "Notify" button. Each student whom you notify receives an individual link by email. The student does not see the names of anyone else who tests.

2. Have the student install the ThatQuiz mobile app on his or her phone. All assigned tests appear on the students phone. The student cannot see other students in the class.
