Adding a new student midway through the year

QUESTION
How do I add a student that has just entered my program into preexisting test codes once I have added him to my roster?

ANSWER
Simply add the student to the class.  He/she will appear on the list of students for all existing test codes, for all tests which have not expired.

Putting a hyperlink into a question

QUESTION
Is there a way to put a hyperlink in a question?  I want to make a webquest.

ANSWER
You can put a hyperlink in an Multiple Choice / Short Answer test.
Simply put the URL ( i.e. http://http://www.wikipedia.org/ ) in the question text.
It will convert automatically to a link when viewed by the student.
Other question types do not support this as easily.

Adding a thatquiz standard math question to a test in design

QUESTION
Is their way to import one question from the concept section that uses the moveable ruler to your own test in design?

ANSWER
There is no way to import one question from the concept section into a test of your own design.
However, after a test is assigned to a class, and before any students have tested, you can add more questions to it.
You can merge two tests together by selecting them and clicking "Merge" in the class test list.
Or, you can click on a test name to edit it, and add more questions from the standard math tests.

Getting a random problem set each time for a single test

QUESTION
Is it possible to make a bank of questions? For example I have 40 questions in the bank but the test is only 20 questions.

ANSWER
Yes, you can make a bank of questions of which you only use half.  Create a test with 40 questions.  After creating the test, click on the test name to edit the test.  In the Length setting, choose 20 / 40, and each time a random set of 20 questions will be chosen for the student, out of the whole problem set.

Sending a test to another thatquiz user

QUESTION
I was wondering how to send a test to another user (a teacher, my friend).

ANSWER
If this is a test you have assigned to a class, here are the steps:
1. Click on the test name in your list of tests to get to the page for editing the test and seeings its details.
2. At the top of this page there are two links.  One link is for the class test (for a grade).  It contains a test code, consisting of eight letters or numbers.  For example PR4M2NAZ is a test code.  The other link you have to click to see where it takes you.  It takes you to the practice version of the test.  Copy the entire URL.  If you give your friend 1) the test code 2) the URL of the practice test, thatquiz.org will accept that your friend is allowed to view / import the test.
3. Your friend can then go to his/her list of tests, assigned to a class, and click the import button.  Entering the correct test code and practice test URL authorizes the friend to get a copy of this test.

NOTE: Previously we required only the test code, but had problems with students importing tests they were assigned to take themselves, in order to see all the answers.  So now it is more complicated but more secure.  Unless someone has both the test code and the practice test url, they cannot import the test.

OR, if this is a test you created, multiple choice for example, you can:
1. Publish your test in the public test library.  Make it "Public"
2. Have your friend search for you in the library by clicking "Teacher" and then typing your last name in the search box.

How can students view their own grades

QUESTION
Is there a way for my students to go into the website and view their own grades? I have tried to figure this out but there are no instructions for this, but there is a place to put in a password to check your individual grades. Please advise.

ANSWER
1. Click "Edit class"
2. Check the box for "Class Home page with Passwords" and define passwords for all your students.
3. Link to the class home page from some school web page, or provide the URL to your students by email, social media, or other means.
4. When students use the class home page with passwords defined, once they log in, they'll see a tab for completed tests next to the tab for assigned tests.  They can click on any completed test to see their grade for that test.

Saving student email addresses

QUESTION
If I enter a student's email address in one test, will I have to reenter it every time or is it saved so I can just click on the student going forward?

ANSWER
Student email addresses are saved when you enter them and send at least one email.  You will not have to enter the email address twice.

Combining slides and essay questions

QUESTION
Is it not possible to put a short essay answer in a slide question?

ANSWER
There are no essay answers in slides.
You can create an essay question in the multiple choice test design.
If you create multiple choice / essay questions in one test, and slide questions in another test, you can join those two tests together to form a larger test with both questions types.  Once tests are assigned to a class, you can select both tests (or any number of tests) and click the "Merge" button to create a larger tests with different questions types.

Using checkboxes for multiple correct options

QUESTION
I'm creating a slide where there is more than one correct answer.  How can I create "check all that apply" without creating multiple choices answers with all combinations?

ANSWER
If you are creating a test using the slide design tool:While editing the text of a multiple choice answer, look on the right side of the screen underneath the text editor.  You can click on the checkboxes and define multiple correct answers which must all be checked in order for the problem to be scored as correct.

If you are creating a test using the standard multiple choice / short answer design tool:Check the "Expand" checkbox to the left of the top buttons.  Each answer now has a checkbox you can check in order to denote a correct answer.  Use the "Preview" button for a question to see exactly how it will appear.

How can I edit an assigned test?

QUESTION
Is there a way to edit questions in quizzes you've created?  I'm hoping I'm just missing something obvious.  It seems yesterday I was able to edit the questions, but today the only thing coming up is the preferences page where I can reorder the questions, choose the testing options, etc.  I can't actually access the test questions and rewrite them.  What am I missing?

ANSWER
In the Design area (click the "Design" link) you can edit the questions at any time.
Once a test is assigned to a class, however, that is a separate, permanent copy of the test.  Even if you edit the question text in the design area, the copy assigned to the class does not change accordingly.
If there's a serious mistake you should delete the assigned test, make edits under "Design" and then assign again.

Removing a test from a student's list of assigned tests

QUESTION
Is there any way to excuse students in a class from taking a particular test? Other than entering 0 for their grade?  What I'm trying to do is get the test off their list of tests that are not completed. Is there a way to do that?

ANSWER
You can expire the test.  Set the expiration date to yesterday.  Click on the test name in the list, and set the date on the next page.  It will no longer appear for any student, although you retain all the grades for the students who already tested.

Transferring tests between classes

QUESTION
This year, after enrolling my first hundred students, I had to start an additional class for additional students.   I tried several times to transfer the tests from the first class to the second.  The tests appeared to be transferred, but when the students put in the code, no names appear.

ANSWER
The transferred tests have distinct test codes.
If you have the same test assigned to two classes, the exam has a different code for each class.
