Restore a deleted class

QUESTION
I went in and deleted my class from last year and created my class for
this year.   However, when I did that I lost all of my custom tests!
I spent a lot of time creating those tests.  I didn't know they were
associated with my old class only. I thought they were associated with
me.
My first question:  Is there a way to get those custom quizzes back?
My second question: If there isn't a way to get them back, is there a way
you could make it in the future so that quizzes can be used in more
than one class and won't be deleted when the class is deleted?
(Perhaps a way to export the saved quizzes so they could be imported
back in for another class?

ANSWER
You can restore the deleted class.
Click the "New Class" link and instead of entering new students,
choose "Import".  One of the options is to restore a previously
deleted class.  This will restore all students, grades, and also
exams.  I suggest copying all the exams for the new class (click the
tests and then click the "Share" button to make a copy for the new
class).  When you're finished copying exams, its probably safe to
delete the old class again.

Trouble connecting to thatquiz.org

QUESTION
I teach middle school math in Central Kansas and have been using
thatquiz.ORG for 6+ years.  I've been a huge advocate of it and have
even done in-services in our district to show the ease and convenience
with it.  That being said this year has been a struggle.  Every day
this year when I'm trying to set classes up in the morning I get a
white screen that has all the functions but none of them are
"clickable" (for lack of a better term).  My computer has been
updated, I've tried IE, Firefox, Chrome, etc...  Our tech guy says it
is something with thatquiz.org.  I was wondering if you could shed
some light on the situation.

ANSWER
Almost certainly the problem is that some content is being blocked by
a firewall or filter at your school or in your school district.
Your network must also accept all content from:
rackcdn.com
which is the content delivery network for thatquiz.org

Bulk add new students

QUESTION
I've used your site for years know and could swear that there was a
bulk add/register feature for students. Has this been phased out? It
was very helpful. Please let me know, before I enter all 120 kids by
hand. Thanks.

ANSWER
Do "New Class" and then click the "Import" button and read the options.

Regenerating Values - Seeing new questions on a retest

QUESTION
Is it possible to create a quiz that regenerates new values every time
a student takes a test?  I am presently trying to build basic
arithmetic skills in my students and have set the pass rate at 85%.
Some students have figure out how to just write the questions &
corrections down and then just enter the solution on the next attempt
without actually doing the work.  If it were possible to create
assessments that regenerated every time this problem would be solved.
It would also serve to cover a wider range of practice in the process.

ANSWER
1. Create a quiz with 100 questions.
2. Edit the quiz by clicking on its name in your "See tests" list.
3. Change the length of the quiz from 100 to something shorter (50 or 20 or 10).
(Don't delete questions -- just enter a new number in the length box
near the top of the page.)
Now then...
The size of the test will now be 50/100 or 20/100 or 10/100.
This means that each times a student tests, a random set of 50, 20 or
10 questions will be chosen out of the 100.
In this way, if a student tests a second time, he/she receives a
different problem set than before.

Seeing the class average for a test

QUESTION
I love that quiz! I have used it every day for the past 3 years and
tell everyone I know about it. I was wondering if there is an easy way
to see the class average on a quiz? I like to get my classes competing
with each other and wondered if there is a way besides importing to
excel, that I could do this. If not, having the feature on the grades
pages would be a wonderful addition. Thanks for the great site.

ANSWER
When you are in the grades table, click on the test name at the top
of a column.  This opens a grade report for that particular test,
showing all student results.  At the top of the report (underneath the
"Email results" link) you'll see something like:
Grades: 22
Average: 87
Where grades is the number of grades, and average is the average
score.  If you look at a grade report for a single test, then the
average is the class average for all students who have tested.

Why can't my new students take tests?

QUESTION
I replaced all my students from last year with my new students.  But whenever they try to test, it says "testing finished".  What's going on?

ANSWER
If you edit a class and change the names, then you have only changed the name of the student, but all the test scores for the student remain.  It the same as if you simply changed the spelling of a student's name from "Sarah" to "Sara" or from "Zak" to "Zachary".  Editing the names of an existing class does not introduce a new student.  If you have done this, then those "new students" are really your old students, and the grade table will be full of the grades from last year.  Click on "grades" and change the time period to "All Time" and what do you see?
It is important, if you have a new class, to use the "New Class" option in the menu, not simply to "change the class list".

Adding sounds to a test

QUESTION
Is there any way of adding small bits of sound to tests? Wanted to
create spelling tests.
ANSWER
The easiest way is to create YouTube or Vimeo videos which are sound
only (no picture). In multiple choice and slide tests, when you click to add
an image, you can choose to add a video instead (link at top left of image
upload dialog).

It is also possible to embed audio clips but you have to host the
audio files yourself (you can't upload them to thatquiz.org).  If you
are comfortable doing this, place a link to your externally hosted
audio file within a multiple choice test or other test you design.
You'll need an up-to-date web browser. Try Google Chrome.

Grades missing?

QUESTION
When I consult the grades, most cells are empty but I cannot seem to key in
another value, as if the system considered the homework completed but
wouldn't display the results.
Evidence of this is that I cannot send a notification to those students
because ThatQuiz says "Test finished".
Is there a way to see those marks again in the Grades menu?

ANSWER
The grades menu only shows grades for a certain time period.
Look at the top left of the page.  There should be a box that says
"Last 1 Month".  Change it to "All Grades".

Multi-subject tests

QUESTION
I am trying to create a test using one question from many of the different categories that you have set up.  Can I choose just 1 problem from multiple locations and put them together into one test for my students?

ANSWER
Yes you can.  Start with any test as a base, and then edit the test by
clicking on its name in the See Tests list.  As long as no students
have tested, you can insert more questions by pressing the Insert
button, and then choosing from the menu which appears.
